DAVID S. GOYER'S THE FLASH

 

For your consideration: What do you think happens in Hollywood less than ten days after coming off the colossal train wreck that was Blade: Trinity? You get offered The Flash movie of course! In defense of David Goyer, WB did give him the job based on what help he gave Christopher Nolan for Batman Begins, but I digress. 

 

Eight days after Blade: Trinity opened it was officially announced that David Goyer would write, produce, and direct the big screen adaptation of The Flash. Goyer's statement upon the announcement of the film was: “’Flash’ is my favorite of the properties. I think the character of the Flash, who moves faster than the speed of light, opens itself up to rich cinematic and story ideas.” 

 

Goyer initially said that the Flash would be fan favorite Wally West in the film, but that was soon changed to Barry Allen with Wally West taking on a minor role. Regardless of who the focus of the film was, Goyer always wanted Ryan Reynolds for the part (he also said that Reynolds should play Thor inthis interview). Tonally, the film was said to be quite dark (which doesn't really jive with The Flash, in my opinion) and was said to take influence from the comics of Mike Baron, Mark Waid, and Geoff Johns.

 

Much like Whedon though, and at around the same time, Goyer and the studio just couldn't come to terms on it. "The God's honest truth is that WB and myself simply couldn't agree on what would make for a cool Flash film." Goyer wrote in a post on his long-deleted MySpace account. "I'm quite proud of the screenplay I turned in. I threw my heart into it and I genuinely think it would've been the basis of a ground-breaking film. But as of now, the studio is heading off in a completely different direction. I expect you'll hear of some new developments on that front shortly."
