GEORGE MILLER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE
In 2007, Warner Bros hired Kieran and Michele Mulroney to write a script for a Justice League film and not long after that George Miller (Mad Max) signed on to direct the film. Production was put on hold by the Writer's Strike in 2007/2008, but WB persisted with the project. Eventually when the strike settled, it was announced that the movie would be filmed with motion capture technology likeBeowulf and The Polar Express (which still sounds amazing). The film had a stellar cast that included Adam Brody as Barry Allen/The Flash, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, rapper Common as John Stewart/Green Lantern, Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Hugh Keays as The Martian Manhunter, and Jay Baruchel as the film's villain Maxwell Lord.
The film was being put together by Weta Workshop in New Zealand which was forced to not take on any more work from other films and focus solely on Justice League. A few years ago, Baruchelspoke about the film and how it would have won all of us over: "I'll just say this, if we had been able to make the movie that we had gone down [to Australia] to rehearse, if you had seen the production art I'd seen... it would've been the coolest thing ever. It would have been the neatest vision of Batman and the coolest vision of Superman you've ever seen. It would have been dark and fairly brutal and quite gory and just f**king epic."
Two things ultimately killed the film. The producers couldn't secure a tax credit for the movie in Australia, where Miller planned to film it, and it was reportedly going to cost A LOT of money. Baruchel put the total at around $300 million. As of this writing, the George Miller version of Justice League is completely dead, with another adaptation in the works. Will we see this movie in its rumored 2015 release slot? Or will it end up in an article just like this in ten years? Time will tell, but until then, sit back and enjoy the super hero movies we will for sure be getting in the future.
